Mindshare: The Sound of Possibility is a music-inspired evening celebrating creativity, expression, and community in honor of Debra Perry, a beloved GRPS music educator for over 31 years.

Debra Perry is an educator, artist, and mentor whose impact—particularly at Coit Creative Arts Academy—has shaped generations of students. From equipping elementary scholars with professional-level music and audio engineering skills to nurturing creativity, confidence, and excellence, her legacy has elevated arts education across Grand Rapids Public Schools.

More than a gala, Mindshare is a movement. It fuels our mission to support the whole child at GRPS. Funds raised directly benefit programs in music, arts, athletics, and experiential learning—opportunities that spark curiosity, build confidence, and open doors for nearly 14,000 students across our district.

The Grand Rapids Public Schools Foundation exists to remove barriers and raise critical funds so every student can learn, grow, and thrive.

As the philanthropic partner to the largest public school district in West Michigan—and the eighth largest district in the state—we support nearly 14,000 students attending school in Grand Rapids. Our work ensures scholars have access to the resources and experiences that prepare them for lifelong success.

what Funds Raised Support

Proceeds from Mindshare ensure GRPS students have access to music, arts, athletics, and hands-on experiential learning opportunities that enrich classroom instruction and spark confidence, creativity, and connection. Funds also help meet essential needs—such as warm clothing and school supplies—and provide flexible mini-grants to teachers and principals so they can remove barriers and bring innovative learning experiences to life.
